My mother and I both write for the on-line market. I write for Associated Content, and my mother works for Associated Content, Demand Studios, and a few other things whose names I forget.
The one thing that we've really noticed is that writing for the on-line market is a lot different than writing for magazines or books. You have to keep focused, get to the point, and pick a title that really cuts to the chase. Cutesy titles don't work for the Internet.
It's interesting, really. When your payment hinges on page views (as it does with most of the on-line companies my mom and I write for), you really have to know what you're doing. I can't get paid for my writing yet, but my mom can, and she works hard at it. And she has some great advice.
Her biggest thing is keeping everything to the point and not rambling (like I tend to do when I'm not paying attention). She also says that you have to really keep on it and get your articles written. She pays for groceries and diapers for my brothers with her freelancing money, and she only gets paid when she writes. So she tries to do at least two articles every day. Yep, thats right. Every day.
So what about y'all? What's your experience with the on-line market? Any tips, tricks, or questions to share?
