My name is Amaris. I am the daughter of Kaasni and Lalitesh. I was born a full moon. I am now about 14 years old. When I was 13, some people started building a railroad. Lots of different people came together to work on it. As soon as they started building, our home was being bothered. When they finished, we rarely had a food supply.
Father always came home upset. He was always worried about our food supply, our land, and our people. One night, I overheard mother and father talking and they were suggesting to send me with my mother’s sister when she leaves. I was hoping they would not send me away. I feared for the lives of my parents and the people of our land. I didn’t want to lose any of them. They were my family. No, they are my family. I won’t leave them.
When the time came, I refused my parents’ wishes and stayed with my family. When everything was all and well our people will come back. I will be here for that. I will be the one who didn't go back on our vow to live here forever. This is our land, we shall never leave.
